A whole year. Wow. *Pardon me while I take a minute.*

We had a wee bit of a scare at the first of the year that, in the end, turned out to be a lab error. I know I didn't mention it here on the blog, and VERY few people knew about it. So please don't be upset if you weren't in the loop. We just didn't want to sound any bells until we knew something concrete, and one set of numbers simply isn't concrete. Dr. H thought it could be a lab error and ordered additional, more frequent testing to be sure. Needless to say, we were quite relieved when the tests revealed that it was, indeed, just a single set of bad numbers from a lab (that we will no longer be using).

Derek's one-year follow-up went swimmingly. Dr. H couldn't be more pleased, and that's something we couldn't be more pleased about! So that means Derek will get to bump back his testing schedule: once every two months for bloodwork and once every <strike>three</strike> four months for CTs & oncology appointments. And, of course, prognosis continues to improve as the likelihood of recurrance goes down dramatically with each passing year.

Can I get a WOOT?!

Holiday Wishes

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Don't you just love hearing that mic test? Cracks me up every time. Don't know why.

Just droppin' in to give a quick update. You'll all be happy to hear that Derek got a terrific report last week at his six-month check-up with the oncologist. (Can you believe it's been six months? Me either!) To top it all off, in July, he broke his monthly sales record by bringing in a whopping 121k and set another sales record (for back-to-back 100k months) in August. Lots to celebrate!!!

We've enjoyed a quiet summer. We did a little traveling - went cruisin' in Alaska. Wow - that place is beautiful! We hope to go back. There's still so much more to see. We also made a little trek to the ranch with some friends. It's always good to get out to the country - away from the noise & traffic of city life. Wish we could do it more often!

Other than that, things have been pretty quiet. I was one of the founders demanding that this blog be created and now I've waited about 2 years in between posts!!! Agh! It was great to see you all the other month (yes could have been better circumstances, sad face). And I SWEAR that after I get back from the wedding I will actually share the cute family photos I took of all of us at Uncle Jerry's the other month. So anywho, that's my quick update. Since I last posted I got engaged and now I'm leaving for St. Croix, USVI in exactly 10 days to get married! Our wedding day is Friday May 1st and we're just SO EXCITED! I'll return bearing beautiful scenic wedding pics! I'm so grateful I have awesome parents and he has awesome parents that supported us marrying in St.Croix. It will be a great time and HOPEFULLY everyone got their invite (some got lost) and I wish you all could make it! I will be walking down the aisle with a small charm framing a picture of Biggie and Papa on their wedding day secured to my bouquet. I thought you all would appreciate that, and it means so much to me. Anywho, we also bought our first house EVER! We will be moving in after we return from the wedding. I'm grateful for that (and the slummy real estate market), because we basically got a brand new fully upgraded house THROWN at us by some big shot builder who just had too good of a deal to pass up. I keep being told that i'm very lucky that my first house is so nice. So I appreciate it. Anywho, wish me luck! Details about how it goes later!

Let's Blog Already

It was terrific to see everyone over the weekend. Though I really wish we'd stop meeting under those circumstances! It would be better to meet for fun - tour a museum, go to a park - you know, fun!

Alrighty. So I think we all established that we need to be better at keeping up between visits - whether it's through email or this blog or letters or phone calls or ... well, you get the idea. I realize several of you may have forgotten how to sign in & then actually write posts. Blogger will help you with both - just click on Help or Forgot my Password or both. *wink*

I'll be honest, I'm much more likely to write regularly over on The Foxhole. But that doesn't mean that I don't hop over here & look for posts from all of you! So write away. Even if you don't think you have anything to write about, just say you don't have anything to write about. If you read The Foxhole at all, you know that I often ramble a whole load of nonsense when I have nothing to say. And that happens a lot. *grin*

Oh. And if any of you decide to start your own blogs, let me know & I'll link 'em on the sidebar.

Now what are you waiting for? Where IS everybody? Seems like we've all forgotten that this handy little tool is out there for us to use. (Us included!) So here's the run-down from Rowlett.

Derek's currently kicking butt & taking names at work. He's an entire MONTH over quota at this point. So to say he's doing well is really an understatement. The entire branch is over quota right now, so they're all sittin' pretty. There's been some rearranging of territory & Derek's gotten another big account. So he's now working, working, working more than ever. BUT he's still having time for fun, so never fear.

I've finally wrapped up my major singing responsibilities for the spring. I'm on hiatus with my church gig. And my other stuff has wrapped up too. In June, I spent a week chaperoning teenagers on choir tour in Memphis. All in all, it was a great trip - we had fun, the kids behaved, and the concert was well-received. Friday I'm off to Ireland with the Irving Chorale. It's a "working" trip but with a lot of fun built in, of course. I hope to put up some posts on The Foxhole while I'm away, assuming I can get to a computer & the remote posting works. Derek will be staying home - work is just too frantic to allow a long trip. Plus, he'll be leaving for a business trip as soon as I get back.

We're still not sure about an "us" vacation. We're tossing around an August trip. But we'll see how things work out. The price of gas (and subsequently airfaire) really puts a damper on things.

Other than that, I guess there's not really any news from us.

Hope everyone is well.

Holy Smokes! I finally remembered how to post a blog. Seriously though, that is pathetic!!! Shawn just sighs and shakes his head sadly when I make my degree of computer helplessness known! Good thing he's around to bail me out when I really screw things up! Anyhoo - sorry it has been so long since I have posted anything. I switched jobs in October and went from working two days a week to working five. Oh, did I mention the, one hour, one-way commute? Not alot of fun. I had not had that type of schedule since we had Garrett nine years ago and to say that it threw my family into chaos would be a gross understatement!! So, I now work for Aetna in the Disease Management Program and I really like it. Basically I do patient education to Aetna's members so that they can better understand their disease processes and manage them more successfully. Aetna doesn't have to pay so much because their members are healthier and better educated, I still feel like I make a difference to sick people, so it's a win-win situation. The big kicker is there are no weekends or holidays and starting in August, I will be working from home. Hooray!!!!
The boys are well but very busy. Baseball season has started again and this year both of them are playing and that means that we are at the ball field six nights a week. In other news, my oldest son Garrett was nominated to be a Great Lakes Scholar for his academic success and I think that's pretty nifty. We are going to a Cleveland Indians game in July where he will be (with many others) rewarded for his accomplishments ON THE FIELD!! (Big deal to a ten year old!!) One lucky kid will also get to throw the first pitch of the game and Garrett is so revved up about this, so sure it just has to be him that sometimes he can't sleep. My youngest son Spencer is doing great in Kindergarten and is already reading at a 2nd grade level. I don't know where they get their smarts from, honestly. It's not me, and it's not their dad either! There really isn't much else going on. We are just trying to make it through ball season intact!! OHHHH! I did get to go see Michael Buble' in concert and I swear I almost passed out! That man is amazing and I turned into some kind nutcase during the show. I love him, love his music and he was outstanding in concert if you ever get a chance to go see him. So, that's about my one big highlight so far. Not much, but when you are a mom and working full time, you take what you can get!!!
Aunt Debi - you totally rock! I love imagining you as a biker babe! I am glad Rog is healing well. That is a brutal recovery, but my patients would always come back months after the surgery and tell us how great they felt and how their knee never hurt anymore, so tell him to stick with it - he will be glad.
Aunt Mickey - how's the family tree business going? Keep me updated. Miss you. Derek and Susan, I am positively jealous of the trips you have been taking. Maybe one day I'll live a life like that!! Ha, ha. Susan - I have not scrapbooked one page since I started my new job and I'm a little sick at how behind I am. Ugh. Jessi - your loft sounds sweet and I think of you when I am watching HGTV and they show places like the one you described. I am happy you like it so much. Everyone else - I love you all but I have to go. Aunt Mickey 0 give Gramps a big hug and kiss from me and tell him I love him.

Hey Everyone!

Gosh it's been a while since we've posted something, sorry for the long silence. It looks like everyone's been busy! Mickey, thanks so much for the pictures of Grandpa! It really has meant a lot to see some of the little moments in his life and we really enjoy them! Debbie I'm glad you're settling in to Florida, and it sounds like Rog is on the road to recovery, that's great. Rachelle and I were just talking through our vacation plans for the rest of the year, I'm sure we will be down to Florida at some point to visit her mom. I'll let you know once we've got the dates finalized, we'd love to spend some time with you while we're down there!

We've had a calm few months here in Ohio, after last year with all the unexpected trips and job change it's been nice to have some low stress time to just be with the kids. I don't know if you guys heard about the blizzard at the beginning of March, we got almost 2 feet of snow in 2 days. Here's a picture of the kids on the "snow mountain" we made with the snow blower. They're actually about 5 feet off the ground. We were trapped in until they plowed the subdivision. We roasted marshmallows in the fireplace, and tried to make snow angels (the snow was so deep you would just disappear when you laid down). It was actually kind of fun for everyone.

We had a lot of fun for Easter this year, I have to admit Millie stole my heart in her pigtails and pink dress. She was sick so she didn't get to go to church, Rachelle stayed home with her while I took the boy's. It's a shame she didn't make it because she would have been the cutest toddler there hands down (not that I'm biased or anything). In the memorable Easter moments category, we tivo'd the Charlie Brown special and the kids watched it about 50 times. So on Easter morning we had all the baskets and eggs hidden around the house and when the kid's got up, Brennan came running into our room and said "Daddy Daddy, the Easter beagle came, the Easter beagle came". I don't think I'll be forgetting that one anytime soon. Also from the department of funny kid sayings, the boy's and I have been reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Tonight we got to the part were Mr. Tumnus the fawn talks about the White Witch who makes it always winter but never Christmas. When I finished that sentence Ian literally gasped and said "Oh, that is so rude". It's moments like this that make me love being a dad.

Well, that's the recent news from Ohio. Take care everyone. I'll try to post again before another 3 months has passed. Love you guys.

Shawn, Rachelle, Ian, Brennan, and Amelia (Millie).

Boring

Haven't really had any note-worthy stuff going on lately. Derek's started off the year with a bang at work, making quota in both Jan. & Feb. Aside from caseload, he's made some set sales and has several still in the pipeline. He had a big meeting today about a product that could generate a fair portion of his quota each month. The doctor was very interested in the product. So we'll see where that goes.

Things for me are slow. But that's my choice. I haven't picked up any singing gigs in quite a while, aside from my paid church job (which keeps me plenty busy!). Have a few things to decide on in the coming months. Right now, I'm preparing music for Easter & working on selections for the voice studio recital. Summer will be busy with several singing trips -- Memphis & Ireland. So no time for theatre this summer. The fall will be busy too as I'm committed to give a recital for a fine arts series at the regular paid gig. And that brings us into the busy Advent season. All in all though, I'm home more than I'm gone & I'm really enjoying the break.

Dori's doing really well. You may remember that she got really sick in the fall. Once we got a firm diagnosis & began tinkering with meds (took a month or two until we found the right combo), she's been doing great. She's finally looking like herself again -- with a healthy amount of fluff. And she's definitely back to her perky self. The best thing for her, aside from getting well, has been the addition of her buddy Meeko, the Siamese. They both love to play, especially with each other. We get lots of entertainment from their romp sessions.

Other than that, we haven't had that much going on. Don't know if we'll be taking any trips this year. More than likely, I'll just be tagging along on some of Derek's work trips. We'll see. Thus far, my singing hasn't allowed any trips. But once Easter's over, it will be a little easier to take some weekend jaunts.

Hope all is well with the rest of you. Would love to hear some updates. (Aunt Debbie, Derek will be in FL next week. Can't remember where. Maybe Ft. Lauderdale? Is that anywhere close to you? Email him if it is at dtdguy AT gmail DOT com.)

I'm s pig

Hi guys, Sorry for ignoring everyone. I keep forgetting how to get onto the blog. I am hopeless at computers. Shawn, you really need to give me a course. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Chris and Josh, I am so sorry I didn't get a card at least to you guys, but I have no current address for either of you. Chris, I hope you had a happy birthday. I thought of you but had no way to get hold of you. Please send a phone number or address. Josh, please send a picture of LLoyd, I'd love to see him. Hope he's healthy and growing fast. How was his first Christmas? Amanda, how are you keeping up with school and a baby? I know it's hard, Jessi was two when I went back for the last two years full time. But with Derrell to help me study and Mickey to fill my stomach and a few others, I made it. I know you will too. When you guys get a break, please come to Fl. We'd love to have company. Shawn, Shelley, Derek, that goes for you guys as well. Shawn, isn't your Mom here ? I forgot where. Tell Shelley to get her butt on the blog, I'd love to talk to her. Mickey sends me pictures of Pop often. He's such a sweet soul, and I thank God every day that Mickey is there for him. Derrell sees him daily and Jerry is there often, so he's very lucky and seems happy as a lark. Susan, thanks for the pictures you put on, I enjoy them so much. I've never been to Napa before. Rog and I went to Vegas a couple of times for the PBR (bull riding) finals and had a great time. I suck at gambling, so we mostly walked and looked. Lots of great shows for free at the different casinos. Hope you have fun. Rog made it through his knee replacement fine, but he still has alot of pain at night and doesn't sleep well. He's back at work full time and doing physical therapy after work 3 days a week. So he's coming along. I'm volunteering at the Humane Society and no I haven't brought anymore dogs home yet. Six is enough for now. Goldie is 15 though and Gracie is 12, so I hope they have a few more years left and I won't need to replace them! Susan, I've known dogs to eat rats and get Hepatitis, but if your dog is vaccinated yearly ( DHLPP- the H is for Hepatitis) how in the world did it get it? Where did the vet think he contracted it? Be sure you guys look up www.jaxcudas for pics of Jessi's hockey team. This is probly the last year she's dancing for the Ice Girls. Can't think of any more news. Happy Kwanzaa!

Errr, and Christmas too. Hi all! Was just gonna drop a line to see how everyone was doing and wish you all a merry x-mas! Things are swell here. It was still 85 degrees until today where it's still not cold, just cooler. Gotta love Florida! Anywho, mama is very busy right now cuz daddy got his knee replaced on Tuesday. I think other than the actual surgery going well, everything that could go crappily did. She's about to draw blood with some of the people at the hospital. But yeah, you guys should call the house and just say hi and feel better since i'm sure she won't have time to write anytime soon with daddy propped in a hospital bed in the living room and Nurse Debi waiting on him hand and foot. I wanted to drop a note to let everyone in Texas know we are planning to be in town for a few day's over Christmas. Due to my lack of vacation time, we're only going to be in town from Sunday evening till Wednesday afternoon. We're planning to be at Dad and Marsha's most of Christmas Eve, I'm sure we'll make time to see Grandpa and make it over to Derrell and Mickey's as well. Hope everyone is ready. We went to Family Night last Thursday for Harold. It was very nice. Jerry, Marsha, Derrell, and I went. We were very happy when Josh, Amanda, and little Lloyd came in. It was wonderful seeing them again. The baby is beautiful. I know Harold loved seeing them....especially the baby. If you have time...drop Harold a card. He loves getting them. We've had lots going on since getting back from Hawaii. I think I mentioned Dori being sick. Well, lots of stress & tests later, we did finally get a diagnosis--hepatitis. Yes, dogs get it. Yes, it's just like people hepatitis. Without more invasive testing, we weren't able to find out for certain whether Dori's case is chronic or acute. We're treating it as a chronic case. After two weeks on some (very expensive) antibiotics, her blood results came back absolutely normal. So what we've done/are doing is working. Now she's on some lifetime maintenance meds but otherwise presumed fully recovered. And you can tell, too. She's back to herself for sure. She's perky and happy, begs for walks and food. Really, I think she's even better than she was before she got sick...which makes me wonder just how long this has been going on.

Anyway, in the meantime, we've also been to Napa Valley. Stryker hosted an upper extremity training course there, and one of Derek's docs was signed up (but ultimately had to leave due to a death in the family). Derek helped with the labs, and we helped entertain doctors & their wives. Napa was beautiful. We had perfect weather the entire time--a nice change from the very late fall heat back home. And we happened to be in the valley for first harvest & crush. That was really neat, but it also meant there was a lot more traffic to contend with on the highway up to the vineyards. Still, we got to see the ones we really wanted to & have a long list of vineyards to see on the next trip. Here are a few photos.

Derek has a training course in a few weeks in Vegas, and I'll be tagging along since it works into my schedule well. I've never been to Vegas, so I'm looking forward to it. After that, I don't think I'll be tagging along on anymore trips (I need to save for my summer trip to Ireland); we'll see.

Aloha!

Derek and I have returned from cruising the Hawaiian islands. I wanted to let you know about a cruise that Marsha and I took this weekend. It was a very large boat and very relaxing. We enjoyed a wonderfully prepared meal. The service was outstanding. We could enjoy the scenery from the air condition dining room or upstairs. We were both so sorry to leave the comforts of this cruise after only 2 hours. I know you want to know where this outstanding Texas cruise could be..... Well, it was in Granbury. It was a river boat. Our meal consisted of good old Texas BBQ. We did see some beautiful homes and a lovely power plant(in the distance). We did have our own table. Derek and Susan just got back from their cruise. I know they will be jealous when they hear more about our trip.
We really did have a good time. Maybe we'll try Waco, Tx next....They have a river boat there too. Haven't written in awhile because I couldn't get on for some reason. One day someone, a very brave soul, is really going to have to teach me computer savvy. I'm fairly hopeless. But such is life. I am getting a new car today, a Saturn Sky that I've had ordered for awhile now, and next weekend I am taking a motorcycle course to learn to drive myself so Roger can stop chauffering me. I found a red Harley 883 that has my name on it, so I figure I better learn something about driving it. When Mickey comes to visit, we will be hot biker babes!!!!!!!!! We are doing great, enjoying being back in Fl. although it's awfully hot and I have to get used to it again. I hope everyone is planning a trip to St. Augustine, cause I love having company! Shawn, how is the new job going? Did you get the photos I e-mailed you of Shelley and Rochelle's visit to Mom and Pop? Josh, please send pictures of Lloyd so I can see how much he's grown. Kia, Congrats on the beautiful little girl. Mickey, I need a piece of stained glass for the front door. Hope you guys have a great time in Alaska. Wish we were going with you. Derek and Susan, glad things are going so well for you guys. Out of news-Talk later. Love- Debi

Leaving soon

Derrell & I are leaving on the 18th for Alaska. Can't wait to get there and enjoy cooler weather. I hope the fishing will be outstanding. This is kind of our Anniversary gift to each other. 37 years and stilled married. AMAZING!!!!! Been busy making preserves. Thanks to Marsha, I have it down now. I have plum, fig, strawberry, apricot, and peach. I've been making homemade cobblers and ice cream for Harold Lloyd. He doesn't like to share. He really enjoys the treats and the visits. Still working on the family tree book. Coming along slow but sure. Guess I'll get back on embroidery and stained glass when we get back. I'm excited that I finally have hobbies. I guess I figure you guys will hop on over to our blog for the latest news. But I'll go ahead and bore you with some updates.

I've been enjoying several weeks of no singing. My last gig wrapped up, and I chose not to book myself for anything else. My church job gave me 4 weeks off, so I've been enjoying the life of a couch potato. I go back to "work" at the church this Sunday. Otherwise, I have nothing on my plate until after Labor Day--I'll have an audition the end of September.

Derek's been keeping busy with work. He's done lots of traveling, taking doctors to meetings and training. And he's still on track to make his number for the second year in a row, though I'm sure he'd say "don't jinx me."

Aside from the excitement about two upcoming vacations, all's pretty quiet from our neck of the woods.

Oh, the Irving Chorale will be featured on this week's Music of the Metroplex broadcast on WRR. Kevin Sutton will be interviewing our artistic director Harry Wooten and will be playing excerpts from recent concerts. And Harry just called to tell me that they will be playing at least two pieces in which I am a featured soloist. Exciting! Please tune in to 101.1FM this Sunday at 7 p.m. CST to hear the broadcast. I've been reading everyone's posts for months thinking I just have nothing interesting enough to say about my goings on but I suppose that's just silly. The magnitude of an event is all in how you perceive it I suppose. Soooo, here goes- Since my last post I've moved into an AWESOME NY-looking loft downtown, and no I STILL lag on the photos. But until then, let me paint a lovely mental image for you- it's just like the movies, brick walls, exposed heating vents on the 28 foot ceilings, brushed high gloss concrete floors, spiral staircase, stainless steel appliances, you can lay out on the roof and watch the downtown fireworks front row, etc. It used to be a monastery I think. But it has that cool "hey buzz me up" keypad at the front door of the building so people can't get in unless I let them or they know the code. Mama and Daddy like that for my safety's sake. Interjection- it's his birthday tomorrow! But yeah, living with the boyfriend and that's goin swell. He works 24 hour shifts so on his days off he stays at home and tidies up and does the laundry like a good little housewife, gahahhhaa (evil scientist laugh), be jealous ladies. Anywho, I am also the captain of my dance team this year and that ball is finally rollling. We just had auditions the other weekend and let me tell you, it was wonderful to not have to partake, I just taught and judged. You can go to jacksonville.com type in keyword Cudas, and there are galleries of pictures there under Jacksonville Barracuda Ice Girls. And that's a hockey team for anyone who forgot. BUT, I got my hair jacked up right before the auditions so it was yellow and i look somewhat like a Powerpuff Girl. Don't mind that, I got it fixed. But yeah it was neat that 3 newspapers showed up and took pics and wrote articles. Ummm let's see what else, I gotta raise! A baby one but that was lovely. Oh and as you know I work for Venus Swimwear. I am titled a graphic designer and assistant to the creative director, so I usually have nothing to do with the actual swimsuits we create and sell. Other than walking by the design room and affluously contributing my unsolicited opinion, haha. BUT, recently I was asked to hand draw a picture for a rock and roll bikini. I drew a girly looking electric guitar and some wings for the butt. Anywho, I completely lost track of it because many swimsuits are designed here and ideas are thrown around that just dissipate and never make it to actual production. So, one day I walked into my boss' office and saw the pictures i'd drawn had been created into transfers and actually placed on a real bikini AND apparently we're producing and selling it next year! Whoooo! Not really anything I'd wear but everyone keep a lookout on the website because I made it! Umm, that's about it. I'm going back to the Virgin Islands in September yay! And I'm shooting a swimsuit calendar the week I get back. So yeah that's really it. Hope everyone is doing well, that puppy is adorable. And sorry you had a crappy week Chris. And i'm super excited about the fam tree as well. Happy thursday-almost-friday!

Thought for the day: "We must not focus on how valuable we are, but how we are valuable."

Hey Everyone!

Well, honest- to-Pete, I could not for the life of me remember how to log on to this site. It's the whole password thing. I have thirty at work , three for banking, then a zillion others for all kinds of crap. A girl can't keep it all straight! So that's why I have not posted anything for a while.
Anyway - life is fairly calm in our house these days. Garrett finished baseball season about a month ago and although I really enjoyed cheering him on, all the time at the ball field was getting to me! We are now trying to get ready for school (which starts in four weeks) and I just keep thinking to myself, where did the summer go? Spencer will be starting kindergarten this year and every time I think about it too long I get weepy. It's ridiculous I know, but I can't stand that my baby is already so big!
Mickey, I am so excited to hear about your family tree research! I have always thought that it would be a neat thing to try I've just never had the time or energy to start it. Please keep me updated. I got a big kick out of your "kiss their ring" comment! You crack me up!
Aunt Debi, I am glad to hear that you're settled in and liking your new house. We got a new dog and she is the prettiest thing I've seen hit the town in a long, long time. Her name is Coco and she looks like a warm cup of coffee. I'm putting a picture in here so you can all admire her. I think that we have finally found the perfect dog for this family! When she chews on the boys' toys they call her Devil Rat and that cracks me up too. They beg every night to see if she can sleep in their bed, but I just don't trust her or them quite enough!!
Work seems to be the same as always. Ty is doing well and as usual has spent most of his summer out on the lake fishing. We just got back from a 12 day vacation to South Carolina and are pretty refreshed. We got to room with Shawn and Rach down there and the best part was that fat little butterball Millie was on hand whenever I wanted to squeeze her! I call her Porkzilla and tell Rachelle she needs a training bra, which of course she finds offensive. We all get a big kick out of it!
Anyway, that's the update on us. Susan, I've been trying to finish scrapbook projects too. My current is trying to finish my book from Italy, from three years ago! Hope your show goes well. I've always love the story of The Secret Garden. All right, I'm signing off.

Thank you Susan

I would like to say thank you for the info I have been very busy. My sister-in-law, Katie, is teaching me about documentation.
So far: Fox--back as far as 1497 in England
Langston--back as far as 1375 in England
McLemore--back as far as 1781 in Ky
Hankins--back as far as 1828 in Tenn

Got alot more work to do. I've got to document alot of this info.

One thing for sure...the Fox males married well. (Oh, I knew that)
Gentleman Henry Fox married Ann West in 1673. Her father was a Col. in Colonial Army of Virg. His father was one of the Governors of Colonial Virginia. One of the Fox males was related by marriage to Ann Knolly. That took the group into royality in England.

Making a book for Derrell. He loves English history so he has enjoyed reading about his family in England.

I mapped out(by marriage) Harold L to the Henry II King of England. He thought he was really special. (Derrell too) I think they thought I would kiss their ring or something. I told them to forget it. It's been fun. I stay at the computer alot.
Derrell has saved alot of money. I haven't been shopping.
Stay in touch. I'll try to keep things brief. First of all, a big congrats to Shawn on the new job! How exciting. And I'm sure you're somewhat relieved that it does not require a move. I hope you enjoy it. It's great to hear that Debbie & Roger are settling into the new house & job.

Derek has been busy with work. In fact, he was out-of-state all but one weekend in May. Business is great for him and continues to grow. Big sales are in the wing and new relationships are being forged in new territory. He's really made a name for himself at Stryker, and we're all so proud.

I'm currently in rehearsals for The Secret Garden at RCT in Richardson. Show opens Friday, as a matter of fact. I'm playing Claire Holmes. It's not a terribly significant role, but it's a role nonetheless. And it does require lots of stage time and singing. If any of you are in the area, I hope you'll consider coming to the show. More show info on our blog.

In other news, we are currently fostering a beautiful male Siamese. He literally followed Derek home early last week. Thus far, his family has not come looking for him despite the messages all over town that we have him. So now we are looking for a home for him. I would love to keep him, but our house is full & I don't think the current brood would appreciate an addition. He's a terrific guy--super friendly, big snuggler, wants to be with people, follows you wherever you go. It will be hard to give him up, but we hope to find him a terrific home where he'll be loved as much as we've grown to love him

Once Secret Garden closes, we're looking forward to a quiet summer. I have no shows waiting in the wings. I'm looking forward to the break, and I know Derek is looking forward to having me home. We have several at-home projects that have been on the to-do list for ages. We hope to finally tackle those. And naturally, I have my own personal to-do list--like catching up on my long-neglected scrapbooking projects. Other than our Labor Day cruise, we have no vacation plans. Derek has a business meeting in Vegas that he wants me to attend. Jury's still out on that one

So, as you can see, it's been the same ol' same ol' for us. Busy, busy, and busy.

Employed Once Again

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on my job, I accepted a position as an I.T. business analyst with Motorists Insurance here in Columbus. It's not as exciting as moving to Florida but it really makes things much easier for us. I'm excited about the job, the package they offered was significantly better than what I had before, and to top it off the drive time will be cut in half. All in all it has worked out much better than I expected, I had hoped to find a good job in 3 months, so I'm pretty happy about 5 weeks! Got the house straight finally. Still waiting for some furniture I ordered, but I've gotten one bedroom straight, so come on for a visit. Shawn, hope the job search goes easy and ends the way you want it. I hope it ends up being Fl. Didn't you tell me your Mom is here? Rog and I are both happy to be here. His job is requiring alot of time and brain drain right now, but I hope that levels off some. I volunteered at the local animal shelter for the first time today. Jessi is only 30 mins. from St. Augustine and I am 25 mins. , so we've met in the middle a few times and I've loved being close to her again. I miss the girls in Al., but I've talked to Shyanne often and I'll see them soon. Mick, thanks for wrapping and delivering Pop's FD gift for me. I love how you take care of him. Josh or Amanda, sure would like to see pictures of Lloyd. I bet he's growing like a weed. In case someone didn't get my address: 2 Bassett Lane
Palm Coast ,Fl. 32137 Ph: 386-246-9382 my cell is still:256-339-0420
Hope you'll come see me. The job search continues, I've had some very promising phone interviews (One in Boca Raton Florida, we're crossing our fingers!). Honestly, I've really enjoyed the time off to spend with the kids, but am starting to get a little anxious for things to return to normal (i.e. to have a job to go to in the mornings). We're still sure this was the right decision, but the reality has fully set in (both the good and bad sides of it). I've had a couple of in-person interviews here in Columbus, and am expecting to hear back early next week on 2 that went especially well.

In other news, Millie was dedicated in church a few weeks ago. She's turned into quite the little butterball. Ian was the same way and as soon as he started walking all the baby fat disappeared. She's sleeping through the night now, but we think she may have started teething (never much fun). There's lot's of crankiness during the day (but we'll take that over lot's of crankiness at 2 a.m.)

The boys continue to grow at an amazing rate, Brennan is using full sentences with pronouns and adjectives, it's pretty cute to listen to him. Ian finished pre-school for the year, he's getting very excited about our upcoming trip to the beach. He talks about it constantly.

We've used some of the free time over the holiday weekend to get the outside of the house in order, lots of mulching, weeding, and power-washing. It's nice to have it all (or almost all) done so we can just enjoy it for the rest of the summer. If anyone is planning a trip to Ohio this year, you'll have to spend a few days with us!

That's all the big news for now. I hope everyone is well, it would be great to hear from you. (Josh and Chris, let us know what you're up to!). Mickey, I hope your mom's surgery went well, and Debbie I'm glad the move is done. I hope you've corrected the idget's mistakes with your new house :->.

Big Changes

Hello everyone,

Well, life in Ohio has certainly been exciting the last few weeks. There is a long story here, but the short of it is that I quit my job this last week. I've been with the company for over 11 years, so it was quite the big decision. As I am now unemployed, I've spent the last few days scouring the internet and contacting everyone I know to see if they know of any jobs within their respective organizations. If you could all keep us in your prayers we would really appreciate it. We are OK for now, there's enough money to pay the bills and buy groceries for a while. I've been keeping my eye on jobs in Ohio, Texas, Florida, and Colorado, so if you know of anything drop me a note!

In other news, Millie is growing like a weed. She is smiling and making all sorts of baby noises, she particularly loves her brother's making faces at her. She has started sleeping through the night (and we are oh so grateful for that!). Brennan is working hard on potty training, we have a big chart where he gets to put stickers when he is successful in his endeavor's. :-> Ian has made friends with the neighbor's, his greatest delight is to run around the back yard with the boys from next door.

I hope you are all well, Jessi I'm glad you had such a good time on your trip! Also, Susan and Derek I have to say I'm jealous you're going to Hawaii, I hope you guys have a great time! If you go to Kauai there is a national park on the Na Pali Coast side of the island, it has a trail that takes a full day to hike (start early!). It winds along the coast, down to a very secluded beach, and then up into the mountains to a breathtaking waterfall, it's a full day's adventure and was so much fun. If you get the chance to check it out we highly recommend it.

Take care everyone,
Shawn, Rachelle, Ian, Brennan, and Millie

Update

Well, my mom is having surgery tomorrow. Went to Fl. last week, looked at 37 houses Mon. and Tues., narrowed it down to 5 Wed. and made an offer Thurs. We close on the 30th and the movers will be here the first week of May to pack and plan on leaving Tues. the 8th for good. Got a fence guy lined up for the 1st and floor guys also. The house is only 2 years old, so it doesn't NEED anything, but the idgits put snow white tile in it and with 6 dogs and an anal housekeeper, that just won't work. They are taking that tile out and putting Terra Cotta in. Still doing dog rescue up to the last minute so if in search of a puppy, I am your puppy pimp! Look on petfinder.com and put in Cullman's zip 35053 and voila! Rog is having a kidney stone removed tomorrow. He has been trying to pass it for 6 weeks and no luck, so ......
He'll be here recovering for 5 days and then he heads back to Fl. Jess will only be 45 minutes away from me in Jax, but my two grandaughter's will be 8 hours. Sucky! 'Bout it for me tell Poppy I love him Mick. Well, correction, I survived the hullabaloo of Easter. Never again will I triple book myself! Everything went really well though, and I'm now enjoying a little peace and quiet for the month of April, which basically means I'm only on the road four nights a week instead of six. Yay! But come May, it will be back to a very crammed schedule until July 1st.

Derek's also enjoying a little quiet time. While business is busy, it will be busier in May as he'll be gone at least two weekends for business trips. And if doctors who've expressed interest in a third trip come through and actually book, he'll be gone three weekends in a row. All this for a guy who hates to fly, but cha-ching on the frequent flyer miles!

While we'll both be hopping through spring and early summer, we're looking forward to our late summer vacation. We're going to Hawaii over Labor Day. So in our spare time, we'll be working out to get swimsuit-worthy. Hahaha!

Hope all of you are well.

Update

Got a much needed rest this weekend. Derrell took me to a very nice hunting lodge. It's close to Glen Rose. I'm posting some pictures. Jessi, your pictures were beautiful. Don't get too jealous about my short trip. Remember it is Texas and we are just getting rain. We've gone a long time without water around here. Went to the ranch. All of the lakes are full. YEA!!!!!! Can't wait to fish again.

Took your grandfather to his doctor's appointment. We've been waiting for this appointment for a couple of very long weeks. His medication was changed. Derrell and I asked alot of questions and he spent alot of time with us. Hopefully, this will help in the near future. This has been a learning process for me. I've never looked after a person with memory problems. My mom is 87 and sharp as a tack. My mom is not doing well in other areas. That's another thing that weighs on me. If you can send him a card...it means so much to him. He opens them as soon as he gets it and shows it to me many times. He appreciates everything that someone does for him. He is still asking about the death. Just doesn't sink in. He told me that he just doesn't want it to be true so he doesn't remember it. Make sense. Busy making Easter bags for each person at Alterra House. I'm using my embroidery machine, but it's alot of work. Thought it would be a nice thing to do. Stay in touch with him.

One Down...

Saturday's concert was just splendid. The 100-voice children's choir was just magnificent, and that's saying a lot for 3rd-5th graders who had to sit through a 2+ hr concert! But they were very well-behaved and sang beautifully. The big Rutter piece for which I was the soloist went exceedingly well. I should get the recording in a few weeks. And I'll post photos from the concert soon--I'm waiting on Chorale friends to send them to me since I managed not to take a single picture with my own camera.

So that's one performance down and several more to go. I'm booked straight through to the end of June. And when that show closes, I'm taking a much-needed break (i.e. a vacation, I hope). Meanwhile, I'll be running around for the next several months bouncing from one rehearsal to the next.

For those of you interested, my next appearance is next Saturday at Courtyard Theatre in Plano. Let me know if you want more details.

I did get one day off this week for a few house projects. We bought an insert for our fireplace last year and finally got around to having it professionally installed. While the pros were taking care of that, dad & I installed our kitchen backsplash. Whaddya think? Turned it pretty well for amateurs! I should finish that up this weekend--had to let the adhesive cure before applying grout.

Derek's doing well. After a slow week last week (and lots of grumbling about that very fact), he's meeting himself coming & going this week. Once again, he met his monthly minimum quota, which makes this billpayer a very happy girl. And he has several big sales pending. So that's one step closer to that next-to-impossible annual quota.

Moving to Fl.

Hi guys- Happy Birthday Jessi-Glad your back from the Virgin Isls. -loved the pictures- Sorry you're having such a hard time with Pop, Mickey. Rog is leaving Monday, and I am going there the following Sunday and look for a house for a few days. Then he's coming back the 3rd week to have a kidney stone removed,
unless he gets rid of it between now and then. Then as soon as we get closed on the new house, I can move. Can't wait! Somewhere in there, I hope Mickey's coming to say farewell to her lake house and take a needed breather. Can't wait for that either! Glad Papa liked our cards, I suppose it will be easier for him to remember those because they are there in front of him. I'll call soon as well. Who knows, he might think they are new each time he walks by them. He is still having alot of problems. (I really don't think it's going to get any better) Hope I'm wrong. Shawn, thanks for calling him. I know that meant alot to him. He's such a sweet guy and needs alot of attention. Derrell is cooking BarBQ for the staff tomorrow. We've had kind of a crummy week. The boys have both been sick with pink eye and ear infections, and we think Millie has reflux (pretty common for infants, Ian had it). So much of our week has been dealing with whiney children. Everyone is on medication now, and things are on the upswing, so hopefully we'll get some sleep in the next few nights.

In other news, the weather was nice here yesterday, so the boys got to play outside (Ian was thrilled to get to ride his new "big boy" bike). Unfortunately the camera battery was dead so I don't have any pictures for you. This summer should be interesting for us, Ian is old enough now to play with the neighbor's, he's already asking if he can go outside when he sees some of the older kids. That will be a new chapter for us, one that I'm kind of looking forward to.

Both boy's are finally starting to take a real interest in Millie, I guess they've realized she's here to stay. They love to help take care of her, their current favorite activity is to squeeze some of the baby soap out onto her head at bath time. It's pretty amazing what things will entertain a 2 & 4 year old. In other kid news, Brennan has begun potty training in earnest. Really, I'm not sure there are words to express just how excited Rachelle and I are about that.

That's the big news this last week. I did talk with Grandpa, I'm pretty sure he won't remember it, but he did sound glad to hear from me. He said he liked his new place, the people were nice to him. I'll have to ask him about the clown suit next time we chat, you really have to post a picture Mickey!

Love you guys,
Shawn

Spring = Busy

My posts will be hit & miss, at best, for a while. Spring is a busy time of year for me. It's when all of my singing engagements overlap, and I basically run around like a chicken with my head cut off--not quite sure whether I'm coming or going. Right now, I'm in the midst of rehearsals for three big things. I am the soloist for a big Rutter work with a chorale in Irving on the 24th. So we're definitely hitting crunch time on weekly rehearsals. I'm also singing in a Broadway review the first weekend in April, and those rehearsals are really beginning to pick up & are naturally overlapping everything else. Sandwiched in between those two things, I'm singing in a vocal competition (NATS, for those of you who know anything about vocal music). So that's lots of different music, all of which has to be memorized & very little of which is at all easy. And nevermind all of the music I'm expected to sing at my paid church job. {Sigh} This is the time of year that you either love or hate as a singer--and that all depends on when you ask.

So, if you don't hear from me for the next several weeks, you'll know why. But never fear, Easter is near & everything will quiet...at least for a month or so.

Where is everyone?????

I thought everyone would write and get to know each other better. OK, it doesn't take that long. Been with you grandfather pretty much daily. He really needs some extra attention. Cards, calls, or visits would still be nice. I don't know if he would remember that you came by or he received a card, but it would cheer him up at the time. He is getting some medicine to calm him down and for sleep. It works sometimes. The staff is wonderful at Alterra House. They love him and really watch after him. I think I'm going to dress up like a clown and entertain on Monday. I have the suit and white makeup. I know your grandfather will be so proud. He'll probably never come out of his apartment again. Maybe his short term memory will kick in. Hope you stay in touch more often.

I know I can do this!

Hi everyone. Glad to see all the family joining in! Love hearing about everyone. Rog is still in Daytona being a motorcycle slug while I am home alone being bored. I gave up my animal rescue org. -got too politcal and bitchy- so I'm looking for a new cause. I just don't know whether to start here in Al. or wait till we move- if we move. Should know by next week, but patience is not one of my virtues. Neither is chillin' - not good at that. I'm more of a manic! I have 2 gorgeous grand kids ( just ask Aunt Jessi ) that belong to Mandi , that live close by, so I may have to convince them to move to Fl. too! I'll get her to join in this blog thing too. I talk to Mickey and Jessi daily on the phone, so I get their news, but not everyone else. Please continue posting. If I find out how, I will post pictures of the girls-Delilah, Sophie Tucker, Bella, Gracie, Goldie and Norma Jean. Jessi left home, so I had to get new ones! Damn those kids that grow up! Shyann- my oldest grand daughter is registering for Kindergarten this fall. That sucks. Mackey can almost talk now- well English anyway. They are coming to get him at meals. Heard that they brought him down to hear music for the last two days. I'm so glad that they are working to get him out of his apartment. He probably was a captured audience....he still is afraid of getting lost. I took him out riding for a couple of hours and ate with him. Still asking about Granny Fox. When he does..just gently remind him. It's hard, but hopefully he will remember evenually. The only regular schedule he has...in case you come over or try to call---breakfast at 8 am, lunch at 12 noon, and dinner at 5 pm. Meals cost $5(I think), but they need to know in advance so they will have enough food. Once a month, they have family night. I'll let you know when. Families bring the desserts (here comes my cookies). They told me that they have a big turn out each month.
Don't forget to send a card or come by and see him. He lights up when he has company.

Just wanted to say Hi

Hey everyone, gosh it's good to hear from everyone. I think most of you know this about my family, but here's a quick rundown of our story.

I met my wife when I was a freshman in high school (ice skating on the frozen lake behind our houses). We dated on and off for about 15 years, and I finally got smart and asked her to marry me. That was 5 1/2 years ago. That's the two of us up above.

I've worked for the same company for the last 11 years in the I.T. department in various capacities. Currently I manage the implementation of their business intelligence system. That's a fancy way of saying I'm responsible to make sure their reporting is accurate. I do like my job, but am a little bored. Rachelle and I have been talking a lot lately about looking for a new job, possibly somewhere where the climate is warmer, and there's an ocean nearby. (Jessi says Jacksonville is great, and my mother-in-law who lives about 2 hours from there agrees)

You all know we had a new little baby girl recently, this is her, she's still keeping us up all night (I'm a little bitter about last night in particular) but she's really a lot of fun. I know Josh & Amanda can relate to the lack of sleep. Her name is Amelia Elizabeth, but we mostly call her Millie. (The boys like to say Miwwi).

Millie has 2 older brothers, Ian (4) and Brennan (2). This is them making their first snow man. They were quite excited, and more than just a little proud of themselves.

I really enjoyed getting to see everyone, even under the circumstances. It was great to see how all my cousins are doing, we didn't turn out half bad :->. Rachelle and I have been talking about this the last few days and I think we're going to plan a trip to Texas around September. We will definitely have to see everyone when we're down.

Birthday

Ok Susan....Was the (year is not necessary) directed at me?????? While I realize that not all people are like me, I love the chance to see where out of state friends live. It helps me understand what they mean when they talk about home! Go to www.herrealliving.com and click on buy a house, put in zip code 43076 and then click on 13 Woodyknoll Dr. You can take a virtual tour if you'd like! How nifty. Ty and I went to the U.S. Virgins Islands on our honeymoon and there is a great, tiny little restuarant down by the pier on St. Croix. It doesn't have but about five tables but the food and ambiance were wonderful and the night we ate there is still one of the most romantic nights of my life. I am jelous!
Aunt Mickey, I'm so glad you're there taking care of Grandpa. He's so precious. I think it's great that he beat you at checkers. Sly Fox, isn't he? Ha, ha.
Susan, I have not met you but I appreciate your taking the time to set this up. I am so sorry that I did not get to come down for Granny's funeral (sick kids and husband), but I am really thrilled to be able to connect with everyone this way. We haven't been really good about that in this family and I'd really like to change that.
OK - quick summary of the last ten years of my life. Graduated from Ohio University as an RN, got a job in a hospital about 30 minutes from where I live. I have been a cardiac specific nurse for the last eight years. It's demanding, but I love it. I got married nine years ago to the best man in the world and we have two sons, Garrett (8), and Spencer (5). I work part-time right now so I can be home with my boys. Kids keep a girl busy, I tell you! When I worked full -time I thought about how much extra time I would have after I went part-time and how I would maybe be able to relax a little. I was crazy. My time is spent taking kids to and from school, driving for field trips, luch duty and homework after school. Don't get me started on soccer practices and games! UGH!
Anyway. I am hugely blessed and don't have any complaints! Susan - I am a scrapbooking fanatic. FANATIC. It relaxes me and I feel like I'm doing something to pass down to my kids. I also love movies and books. I have several friends that I get together with regularly, so my life is pretty full. We go to a great church and are involved in a small group that we love! There you go, if you haven't spoken to me in ten years, now you haven't missed anything!

Never play checkers with your grandfather

OK....He won at checkers 3 times and we broke even 1 time. What happened to his short term memory loss?????? He was telling me about jumps. He is dealing with things better than most. He has to still be reminded about your grandmother, but there is less crying and more understanding. We have signs all around his apartment telling phone numbers, when he eats meals, he doesn't need to get out money and pay, and his apartment number. He needs everyone to jump in there and send him cards or your family pictures. The staff is really nice. One nurse saw him looking out of his door, but he wouldn't come out. He is afraid of getting lost. (Derrell bet him $500 that he couldn't get lost.) No the bet is not open to everyone. The nurse took him walking in the courtyard. What a precendent to set for the rest of us. I'll give the Reader's Digest version of the last 7ish years. That's where my connection to all of you really begins anyway. I have a younger brother who's a State Trooper in Kaufman County. My dad's retired from the TxDOT & my mom's a school nurse. Graduated from what used to be East Texas State (now A&M Commerce) in 1999. Went to work for the Dallas Court of Appeals that summer (still there). Married Derek in October 2000. We bounced around a lot in the Dallas area (N Dallas, Irving, Coppell) until we built our house in Rowlett in 2003. We have kids only of the four-legged variety--three cats (Flick, Adda, Dottie) and a Husky (Dori). Outside of work, I spend most of my time singing--churches, choruses, operas, and theatres. My other hobbies are scrapbooking and stamping.

Getting Things Done...

Everyone be sure and contact your grandfather... Call, write, or go by and see him when you can. His number is 972-291-3775. He isn't great on the phone and he probably won't remember that you called. You can also send him a card. His address is 602 East Beltline Road, Cedar Hill, Tx 75104 (apt.117) We got him into assisted living (Alterra Sterling House). He has a studio apartment. We bought him all new furniture. His bedroom looks out on the courtyard. He jumps up and looks on a regular basis. Everything looks great. He is still afraid that he will get lost if he leaves his apartment. This is only his second day. Things will get better. I'm going over in a little bit to challenge him to a checker game. I'll let you know if I win....nothing will be said if a 85 year old man beats the fool out of me. Please keep in touch. I think the general idea was that most of us have little or NO (yeah that's me) idea what everyone else is doing. So I'll start! I live in Jacksonville, Florida in a quaint little house about 10 minutes from the beach. I graduated from Auburn University in 2003 and bounced around a bit for a few years. I lived in Birmingham, AL; Knoxville, TN; and spent an interesting summer without running h2o or electricity in Ontario, Canada (you'll have to inquire about details as I could go on for hours). I decided to attempt to have a normal life, and missed the beach so I moved by myself back here (about 30 minutes from where we used to live about 10 years ago). I'm a graphic designer and Assistant to the Creative Director at Venus Swimwear Headquarters (yes I get discounts if anyone needs anything, venus.com). And I also dance for a professional hockey team here (www.jaxcudas.com and www.jaxicegirls.com). Yes, pom poms, gogo boots, swimsuit calendar, the whole 9 yards. Not something I imagined myself doing, but it's fun and I get paid and forced to exercise. And no we don't dance ON the ice, they roll out a carpet. ; ) You can see in the pics. No I'm not married, engaged, never been, no kids, nothing! I do however have a wonderful boyfriend named Darren who is an EMT/Firefighter and that's going awesome so we'll see. We're looking at lofts as we speak! Anywho, that's about the jest of it. I currently have only one hockey game left in the season (yay!) and I'm leaving for the U.S. Virgin Islands in t-minus 9 days! Go to carambolabeach.com and tell me how jealous you are! And my dear father (on his way to Bike Week in Daytona) called me at the crack of dawn this a.m. and said he'd been sleeping in my driveway all night and needed to use my bathroom, hmmmm... The webs we weave. ; ) Mama's at home selling her house and herding around her army of animals. That's all I can think of now. Please feel free to tell me what the heck you are all doing as well. Happy day to all! ---Jessi

Well, it is my first time out.
